A fly-on/fly-off contract is a short-term guest engagement where the artist joins the ship for a defined period — typically one week on board, one week at home — repeating for the duration of the engagement. This format is popular for headline acts and specialty performers who have a self-contained, production-ready show. It allows artists to maintain other performance commitments while working cruise lines.

A headline show (45 minutes) is a full evening performance in the ship's main theatre — the centrepiece of the entertainment schedule. A pop-up or bumper performance (typically 3 sets of approximately 15 minutes each) takes place in different venues on board throughout the day or evening, creating atmosphere and variety. Both formats are in demand across cruise lines.

The primary demand is for dance acts: acrobatic salsa couples, Latin ballroom couples, Latin and salsa show companies (multiple couples), and tap dance performers. Cruise lines also hire specialty artists such as aerial acts, quick-change artists, illusionists and other variety performers. For headline guest entertainer positions, yes — your show should be production-ready. Cruise lines book acts that can perform with minimal technical rehearsal time. For pop-up or bumper performance formats, a shorter, adaptable act is sufficient. Compensation varies significantly depending on the act type, cruise line, contract format and duration. Rates across cruise ship entertainment generally range from $2,000 to $9,000 per month.
